Eurovision 1989

Lausanne, Switzerland

At Eurovision Song Contest 1989 22 countries were participate on Saturday, 6. May 1989
34th Eurovision Song Contest was the second held in Switzerland. It should be noted that the PALAIS DE BEAULIEU there was no public tickets. That bystanders were only representations of countries participating in the ESC and dimosiografoi.Itan the first year that most songs performed by PLAY-BACK. Also for the first time two countries were represented by children: Israel by Gili and France by Nathalie Paque. The EBU, fearing widespread phenomenon, would prohibit the participation of those who are under 16 years, since 1989. Another remarkable thing is that the Swiss sent first to the ESC song interpreted the 4th official language, the Romansh and on behalf of SRG (German-speaking Swiss television). The vote was not agony of Dublin 1988. Yugoslavia led from the start the race, while the UK took the usual 2nd place. The victory of RIVA, with "Rock Me Baby" celebrated in Yugoslavia, and JRT (Yugoslav state television) with much zeal prepared to host in 1990 the ESC for the first time in the Balkans. It is the last year until 2001 winning (not ever win) country.
